Antonio Saltaformaggio Shows Passion for Education

Antonio Saltaformaggio celebrates his fourth year at Gerstell Academy where he has taught 6th grade U.S. History, Upper School World I & II History, and American Government. He was the Boys' Varsity Soccer Assistant Coach in fall 2015 and since 2016, has served as the Middle School Girls' Red Soccer Head Coach.

He joined Gerstell after graduating Towson University May 2015 with a Bachelor of Science in History and a Secondary Education concentration. He holds a Maryland State teacher license for grades 7-12 Social Studies.

His passion for education stems from attending Saint Mary’s Ryken, a co-educational, college-preparatory high school in Leonardtown, Maryland. There he was challenged by phenomenal educators to think for himself and learn for the sake of learning, versus only to achieve high marks. That powerful message of taking ownership of an educational experience is something he instills in his students. He believes students should not only study and learn History; rather, go create it!

During the 2015-2016 academic year, Mr. Saltaformaggio had the great privilege of being named a Champion of Courage by Lia Figurelli '18, whose essay earned her recognition by WBFF FOX 45 Baltimore, MD.

This year, Mr. Saltaformaggio has accepted an offer to participate in the University College London Educational Leadership International MBA program where he is developing as a strategic thinker, leader of learning and educational improvement, manager of resources, and exploring important national and international debates in and around educational reform, leadership, and teaching and learning.

His favorite role at Gerstell is as advisor. “Our advisory program is unique compared to other private schools in the area," he says. "advisors enter into a true partnership with parents and develop his/her advisee to be the best student and young man or woman they can be. An advisor shares in their accomplishments and failures and works actively on providing whatever support they can to allow them to thrive.”

Mr. Saltaformaggio can be spotted supporting students at games, band and choral concerts, and other academic events highlighting our student’s talents outside the classroom. His enthusiasm for our school and its mission is contagious!
