Lower School visits the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra!

During the program, the conductor introduced each orchestra family, and then played a short piece of music. First the percussion performed, then the brass.  The woodwinds played next and performed a piece from Harry Potter and the strings performed a waltz by Tchaikovsky.  While the four pieces of music played, students were encouraged to stand up and move to the music and clap to the steady beat.  Students were also encouraged to let the conductor know if they played any of the instruments from the orchestra sections. Our 3rd grade students were proud to say that they play recorders, which belong to the woodwind family, and our 4th grade students proudly raised their hands to say they can play the trumpet, clarinet, and violin.

Jenna Daly, Performing Arts Department Chair, organized this field trip and afterwards said, “It was truly so magical.”  Mrs. Daly particularly appreciated the message of the program saying, “instruments are diverse, but when they come together, they can create beautiful music as one.”
