Kindergarten takes a virtual field trip!

On Thursday, February 15th, kindergarten students embarked on a virtual field trip to five of the major “penguin destinations” around the world.  With passports and boarding passes at the ready, the agenda included stops in New Zealand, South Africa, Antarctica, Australia, and the Galapagos Islands.
Mrs. Eysaman’s classroom was transformed into an airplane including flight attendants, pilots, a mid-flight beverage and snack service, and movies featuring penguins who are native to the region.  The students particularly enjoyed the flight simulator for takeoff and landings at each new destination.

The trip began at BWI airport, and the first stop was New Zealand where students played a penguin matching game. The next leg of the journey was from New Zealand to South Africa, where students disembarked for a penguin egg relay race.  Next, the students were off to Antarctica where they played musical icebergs before heading back on the plane bound for Australia. In Australia the students worked together to build ramps for racing penguins.  The final destination was the Galapagos Islands where kindergarteners completed a penguin maze before heading back on the plane for the flight back to BWI.
