Jack Ruth ’12 following his passion for research.

Jack was a member of Gerstell's inaugural graduating class in 2012. After leaving Gerstell, Jack completed his undergraduate education at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with a B.S. in Chemical, Biochemical and Environmental Engineering and a minor in Biology. It was there that he found his passion for research after he joined a lab to study fungal morphology for large scale bioreactors. He followed that passion to graduate school, where his research focused on utilizing proteins to convert electricity to chemical energy in electrochemical systems. Jack earned a PhD in Chemical Engineering at Stanford University in 2021. While at Stanford, Jack was involved in several mentorship, leadership, and sustainability initiatives.
Following completion of his PhD, Jack went on to do a postdoc at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), researching microbial systems to convert carbon dioxide into liquid fuels. While there, he was involved in MIT's UROP program, helping undergraduate students gain research experience outside of their coursework. This past summer, Jack took his passion for improving the world to Pfizer, where he leads a team conducting clinical trials for the company's Meningococcal program. He currently lives in New Jersey with his wife and their two sons.
