The Gerstell Academy's Performing Arts Department hosted a one-day AIMS Performing Arts Conference, gathering a large group of Instrumental, Choral, General Music, and Drama Teachers from Maryland's Independent Schools. The teachers were welcomed by Mr. John Polasko, Gerstell President, and the Upper School Chorus who performed a Senegal piece, Kaki Lambe. As well, a small ensemble performed a step routine in preparation for the African American History Assembly that was held the following day. Alysia Lee of the Maryland State Department of Education was the presenter. She brought to light some interesting and available opportunities for our staff. The Music department is grateful to the Association of Independent Maryland and D.C. Schools ("AIMS") for allowing us to host such an exciting day!
