Innovation on the Mound: Gerstell Academy Student’s Robot Tosses First Pitch
This unique competition challenged robotics teams from across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. to design and build a robot capable of delivering the ceremonial first pitch at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Following months of dedicated work and collaboration, the Robo-Lions’ robot, affectionately named Chuck, made history on August 24th as the first robot ever to deliver a ceremonial first pitch at Oriole Park.
Jalen’s Leadership and Contributions
Throughout this project, Jalen played an integral role in the team’s success. His contributions included:
• Designing the robot’s shooter mechanism • Utilizing CAD software to model and refine the design • Guiding the mechanical engineering build process • Collaborating closely with the electrical engineering and programming subteams
Jalen’s efforts demonstrated technical excellence, problem-solving ability, and leadership. His commitment to the project and collaboration with his peers were instrumental in the team’s overall success.
