Gerstell Academy Students Compete in Book of Knowledge Challenge
On Friday, April 10th, Gerstell Upper School students competed in the final Book of Knowledge Challenge, demonstrating their mastery of the Gerstell Leadership Model.
The competition, held in the Alumni House, consisted of questions derived from the Gerstell Book of Knowledge which contains the minimum compilation of facts relevant to the Gerstell Leadership Model.
Following a preliminary test taken by the Freshmen, Sophomore, and Junior class advisories, the top three advisories advanced to compete in the final round.
Students who qualified for the competition competed in teams of three and answered a variety of questions designed to engage their critical thinking skills and their understanding of topics including the mission, motto, definitions of leadership, honor, and courage as well as the seven functional areas of leadership.
One of the most exciting moments of the competition was a rapid- fire portrait naming contest. Each student was required to name a Gerstell portrait leader without repeating a previously mentioned name. Over 110 portrait leaders were successfully identified, highlighting the students’ impressive breadth of preparation!
The Jeopardy style competition was designed and administered by the Senior class. At the conclusion of the competition, First Place was awarded to Ms. Sugg’s Junior advisory, 2nd Place to Mrs. Lowe’s Sophomore advisory and 3rd place to Dr. Greenspoon’s Freshmen advisory.
Gerstell Academy Upper School students competed in the final Book of Knowledge Challenge, with Ms. Suggs’ Advisory emerging victorious in Carroll County.
