On Friday, December 20th, lower school students presented the annual winter concert held in the Paterakis Athletic Center. This year’s theme was “Sports.” Students wore shirts representing their favorite sports team and performed a variety of sports-related songs.
The Lower School, under the direction of Mrs. Jenna Daly, Chair of the Performing Arts Department, presented Halls of Fame, a celebration of all things sports! The fourth-grade students served as sports announcers for the event, sharing interesting facts about Gerstell Academy’s sports-related Portrait Leaders. As is tradition, the concert concluded with the performance of One Candle, One Flame, written by Linda Sobo, with the third grade playing chimes to accompany the song.
This year’s winter concert also showcased the first annual Art Show, which complemented the sports theme of the program. Students showcased their creativity by crafting clay trophies and weaving construction paper to make lacrosse sticks. They also designed soccer balls and track and field-themed artwork. The fourth graders created their own basketball shoes, while the kindergarteners made birds inspired by James Rizzy, a modern pop artist. The event was a wonderful celebration of the performing and visual arts programs at Gerstell Academy.
