First Friday, which is celebrated on the first Friday of the school year, is an annual tradition in the lower school. This year’s readingselection,Nim’s Island, takes place on a tropical islandand the students and faculty were asked to dressin a Hawaiian theme.Students created treasure maps, made Lego scenes from the book, played games outside on the playground and presented their projects to classmates to practice public speaking.
This summer’s lower school “One School, One Book” reading selection was Nim’s Island by Wendy Orr. Upon completion of the book, students were asked to create a project based on the book. On Friday, August 30th, the Lower School students celebrated First Friday with the day’s events centered around the general themes of the book and a showcase of the projects created.
Lunch was a cookout on the quadrangle followed by a visit from The Cow for a delicious ice cream treat. The afternoon featured the movie version of Nim’s Island in the RESH Rotunda.
As another First Friday comes to an end, students and faculty members in the Lower School are excited about the school year ahead and look forward to the next adventure!
