Lower School Students Honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Lower School honored Gerstell Academy Portrait Leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on January 13 - the Thursday before a four-day weekend during a Leadership Circle. Third grader Aubrey began the Leadership Circle with the Pledge of Allegiance.

The students studied who Dr. King was, what he stood for, and how he strived for a positive attitude to make the world around him a better place for all, even in the face of adversity. Three students in Ms. Khan’s second grade class (Wes, Chase, and Abigail) practiced their public speaking skills by sharing an assignment in which the students had to share what they wished for in the future in order to make the world a better place.

Middle School student Blake Mandelberg '27 created an educational video (QR code) to accompany Gerstell Academy Portrait Leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s painting that is displayed in Robert E. Smith Hall. To view video, click HERE.
