Gerstell Academy’s 1st Lower School STEAM Night!

On Wednesday, May 7th, Gerstell Academy held its first STEAM night.  It was an exciting evening full of hands-on discovery, artistic expression, and joyful community connection. Students, families, and faculty came together to celebrate the many ways in which science, technology, engineering, art, and math are brought to life through student learning.

In the Robert E. Smith Hall, Gerstell student artwork took center stage. The art show featured an impressive variety of 2D and 3D pieces, including stunning flower paintings and unique sculptures. The Lower School Garden inspired a beautiful transformation of “The Link” hallway, brought to life with colorful decorations created by the Art Club.  Families enjoyed the collaborative Lower School bug house display, which tied together science, creativity, and environmental awareness.

Students revisited Earth Day themes with a Reduce, Reuse, Recycle station where they created pipe cleaner flowers to place in an aluminum vase to take home. They also had the chance to make bird feeders to encourage wildlife appreciation in their own backyards.

The room buzzed with excitement as children engaged in hands-on engineering challenges, explored robotics, built with LEGOs, tested Snap Circuits, and worked on problem-solving tasks designed to stretch their imagination. Upper School student volunteers generously shared their time, guiding younger learners through activities and helping to create a warm, inspiring environment.

And of course, no evening would be complete without some delicious food! Bebo’s Mac Shack, Blowfish Poke Hawaiian Grill, and The Ice Bowl food trucks added to the festive atmosphere, drawing families together to eat, laugh, and connect.

STEAM Night was a shining example of the Gerstell mission in action—fostering curiosity, collaboration, and joy in learning.
