Gerstell Academy Robotics Team “8 Bit Bosses” Qualifies for Maryland State FIRST Lego League Competition
Congratulations to the 8 Bit Bosses! Gerstell Academy is thrilled to share that our FIRST Lego League Robotics Team has qualified for the Maryland State Competition, taking place at UMBC on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
The team competed in the Roar of the Robots 2 qualifier on January 18 in Westminster, MD, and their hard work paid off in a big way. They brought home two awards:
Core Values Award (1st Place) – Recognizing enthusiasm, teamwork, inclusion, innovation, and respect.
Robot Performance Award (2nd Place) – With an impressive top score of 260points in the Robot Game.
By finishing among the top four teams, the 8 Bit Bosses earned their spot at the state level—a remarkable achievement that reflects not only their technical skills but also the leadership principles we emphasize every day at Gerstell Academy: Leadership, Honor, Courage, and Service.
Participation in robotics challenges like FIRST Lego League gives students the opportunity to think critically, solve problems creatively, and work together toward a common goal. These experiences prepare them for success in the classroom and beyond, while reinforcing the values that guide our community.
We couldn’t be prouder of the 8 Bit Bosses and look forward to cheering them on at UMBC. Best of luck, team—you inspire us all!
