Job Description
Gerstell Academy is a private, co-educational, non-sectarian, college preparatory school, and values-based community built upon our Mission, Motto, Leadership Principles and Attributes. Gerstell Academy seeks an enthusiastic Lower School Spanish Teacher to join our instructional team. This role empowers young learners to develop language proficiency, cultural understanding, and essential leadership skills. Beginning in Lower School, our Spanish program aims for students to achieve intermediate-mid proficiency or higher by grade twelve, preparing them for lifelong success in a global society.
At Gerstell Academy, Spanish instruction goes beyond language acquisition—it serves as a foundation for leadership education, character development, and an appreciation of Hispanic cultures. The ideal candidate will integrate these elements into engaging lessons that inspire curiosity and confidence.
Instructional Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate fluency in spoken and written Spanish.
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging lessons that promote language development at the elementary level.
  • Foster a classroom environment where students feel confident to speak, listen, read, and write in Spanish.
  • Track and assess student progress, providing timely feedback, and differentiated support.
  • Design curriculum maps that align with developmental needs and language acquisition goals.
  • Integrate cultural experiences that help students appreciate Spanish-speaking communities and global perspectives.
  • Infuse Gerstell Academy’s Mission, Motto, and Leadership Principles into everyday teaching.
  • Meet with families and colleagues to share student progress and address individual needs.
  • Collaborate with faculty and participate in committees to support school-wide initiatives.
  • Support the growth of the Lower School program and Spanish Department through additional duties as assigned.
  • Perform daily responsibilities that may include lunch, recess, and dismissal supervision.

General Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in elementary education or Spanish (or related field); advanced degree preferred.
  • Understanding of how young children learn languages and develop cultural awareness.
  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for building positive relationships with students and families.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple priorities while keeping students at the center.
  • Familiarity with ACTFL proficiency guidelines is a plus.
