Position Overview:
Gerstell Academy seeks a Varsity and a JV Boys Basketball Assistant Coach for the 2025-26 Winter season. Gerstell competes in the MIAA B-Conference. These positions report regularly to the Director of Athletics and are paid stipend positions. The basketball season runs from November 3 through the middle of February with practices daily, typically 4:00-6:00pm or 6:00-8:00pm, depending on gym availability.
 
The ideal candidates will have experience as with high school age players, with strong written and oral communication skills. Have a background in building connections within the AAU and local basketball community and have the ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes on and off the court.
 
Essential Responsibilities:
  • Assist in organizing and running practices by leading drills, small group instruction, and conditioning activities.
  • Provide individual player feedback to support skill development and reinforms team strategies.
  • Support the head coach in scouting opponents, tracking game stats, and making in-game adjustments as directed.
  • Help monitor player conduct, effort, and sportsmanship to reinforce a positive and disciplined team culture.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model, encouraging student-athletes in both athletic and academic growth.
  • Assist with communication, equipment, and other logistical needs as assigned by the head coach.
  • Step into leadership roles when the head coach is unavailable to ensure continuity for the team.
