The Lower School Celebrates America 250!

To honor this milestone, the Lower School selected Magic Tree House #22: Revolutionary War on Wednesday as this year’s One School, One Book. The book follows the adventures of siblings Jack and Annie as they travel back in time to the American Revolution, where they meet General George Washington and experience the challenges of the Continental Army. Through their journey, they gain a deeper understanding of the sacrifices and courage that shaped America’s fight for independence.

Each Lower School family received a copy of the book and was asked to read an assigned section each evening. Students participated in trivia questions within their respective classrooms for opportunities to win a variety of prizes. After finishing the book, families collaborated on a culminating project to highlight an aspect of the story. Students proudly presented their projects to classmates, and the projects were displayed for several weeks for the entire Lower School community to view and appreciate.

To further connect with the America 250 theme, the Lower School also held a schoolwide contest. Students in Pre-K through grade 4 were invited to submit a piece of writing or original artwork in response to the prompt, “What does America mean to you?” One winner from each grade level was selected and recognized at Leadership Circle. The six winners also had the special opportunity to participate in the changing of the flag at Fort McHenry and enjoy a picnic with Mrs. Wilson.

Together, these experiences created a meaningful and memorable celebration of America 250 for our Lower School students.
