Gerstell Academy Winter Concerts: A Special Celebration

The Gerstell Academy community is celebrating the accomplishments of our students with our winter concert series. On Wednesday, December 10th, led by Mr. Julius Thompson, Band Director, the strings concert opened with selections performed by the 5th and 6th grade and included Dreidel, Mozart Melody and Ode to Joy, among others. The 7th and 8th grade strings performed selections including March of the Nutcracker, In the Bleak Mid-winter and Climbing Above the Clouds. The Middle and Upper School strings ensemble included In the Hall of the Mountain King. The Upper School Strings Orchestra included The Best of Brahms, Gymnopedie No.1, and closed the performance with Carol of the Bells.

The Middle and Upper School chorus and instrumental band concerts followed on Thursday, December 11h in the Paterakis Athletic Center Gymnasium.

Students in the Middle and Upper Schools opened the evening with a choral music concert led by Mrs. Jenna Daly, Chair of the Performing Arts Department. The 5th and 6th grade chorus performed a variety of selections including Bashana Hab’ah, and Thank you Soldiers, among others. The 7th and 8th Grade Chorus performed I’ll Stand by You and Brave along with a transition piece “Be like the Bird”. The Upper School chorus presented several selections including Hallelujah and, and Lovely Day, and ended with the Gerstell Combined Choirs presenting the beloved Home.

The concert continued with instrumental presentations by the 5th and 6th grades who opened with selections from Elements of Music, an entertaining snippet which demonstrated their skills and abilities. The performance included “Jolly Old St. Nicholas, and the among others. The 7th and 8th grade band performed Theme from “Symphony #1”, The Greatest Generation, and Smithsonian Suite, Mvt 1 among others. The Upper School band closed the concert with selections including Fanfare Esprit, Horkstow Grange and Across the Alaskan Snow.
