Matthew Glaser Selected for Maryland General Assembly Student Page Program
Every year since 1970, Maryland’s high school seniors have had the opportunity to learn about the legislative process by serving as student pages during the annual session of the Maryland General Assembly. The program was begun by House of Delegates Speaker Thomas Hunter Lowe and approved by the Maryland State Board of Education. Student pages serve two non-consecutive weeks, during the 13 weeks the Maryland General Assembly meets. The duties of the page revolve around the schedule of the chamber. Whenever the chamber is in session, pages must be present. Student pages help the members of the Senate and House of Delegates keep the legislative process moving smoothly and efficiently.
Gerstell Academy’s nominee for this program, senior Matthew Glaser, has been chosen as a student page for the 2026 legislative session. It is a tremendous honor to be chosen for this highly competitive program. Matthew will be working with other top tier seniors from around the state this Spring. Matthew’s intellectual depth, love of learning, critical thinking, and phenomenal work ethic combine to make an ideal student for the student page program. Matthew, President of both Rho Kappa (the National History Honor Society) and the Current Events Club, has excelled at Gerstell Academy because of his character and scholarship and is a perfect candidate for this leadership opportunity. Matthew has planned and implemented a number of assemblies on such topics as Anti-Semitism, the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project, and the Global Responses to the September 11 Terrorist Attacks. Additionally, Matthew has also orchestrated assemblies with speakers from the Dissident Project, including one who fled from North Korea and another who emigrated from the Soviet Union during the Cold War.
Matthew approaches each day and every endeavor with passion, conviction, and persistence. His leadership, integrity and incredible tenacity will serve him well when he represents Gerstell in Annapolis during the 448th meeting of the Maryland General Assembly. Congratulations, Matthew on this well-deserved honor!
Gerstell Academy is proud to announce that senior Matthew Glaser has been selected as a student page for the 2026 Maryland General Assembly session in Anne Arundel County.
