Today, Gerstell Academy welcomed back Anthony Carpenter ’19 to the Deborah Paterakis Gymnasium, where he once made history as a standout basketball player. Known for his record-breaking shooting accuracy, over 1,000 career points, and two MIAA Conference Championship titles, Anthony returned not as a player—but as a collegiate coach.

Our 4th grade students set sail on the Lady Maryland for a hands-on Chesapeake Bay adventure, exploring science and environmental stewardship through activities like steering the ship, testing water salinity, and studying marine life. They witnessed the effects of pollution firsthand and discussed the unusual pistachio tide’s impact on ecosystems. A surprise encounter with the Pride of Baltimore II added excitement, as students exchanged cannon salutes and escorted the ship into the harbor. Inspired by innovations like Mr. Trash Wheel and reef balls, students are now designing their own inventions to help protect the Bay, which they’ll proudly present at October’s Leadership Circle.

This past Friday, the Gerstell Academy Varsity Boys Soccer team volunteered with the Freedom Optimist Shooting Stars program, supporting young athletes with special needs. Through mentorship, teamwork, and shared love for the game, our players embodied the values of leadership, compassion, and community service.

Gerstell Academy is pleased to recognize Jalen, a distinguished student, for his outstanding achievement as a member of the Robo-Lions (FRC Team 2199). Jalen and his team recently earned first place in a highly competitive regional engineering competition hosted by FIRST Chesapeake and the Baltimore Orioles.

Upper School students spent the day at First Fruits Farm, Inc., helping harvest, sort, and box fresh food for local families in need. This service experience allowed students to work together, demonstrate leadership in action, and put Gerstell’s mission of service into practice. 

Freshman Rylee Willis represented the United States at the International Baton Twirling Championships in Torino, Italy, earning a bronze medal with the USA Team. Adding to her state, regional, and national titles, Gerstell Academy proudly celebrates her remarkable achievement. 

Students from the National English Honor Society took a deep dive into Shakespeare’s world during a visit to the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington, D.C. From watching a play inspired by Hamlet to exploring interactive exhibits, they gained valuable insights into the Bard’s enduring legacy.
