  • Rachel Newman Creates Welcoming Classroom Environment

    From an early age, Ms. Rachel Newman knew teaching was her passion. While attending North Carroll High School, she participated in its education program. At Indiana University of Pennsylvania, she enrolled in its middle level education program and was a substitute teacher for Carroll County Public Schools.
     
    During the summer, she managed a children's summer camp program at Four Seasons Sports Complex where she creatively invented new and exciting activities for campers.

  • Meet Mrs. Jana Hedrick, Upper School Spanish Instructor

    Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mrs. Hedrick graduated from Calvin College. During her junior year, she spent "an incredible semester abroad" in Denia, Spain; studying its language and culture. "Spain is where I gained my fluency in Spanish, fell in love with traveling, and was able to meet people from other cultures," she said.

    Carroll County's Cold Weather Shelter Expresses Appreciation to Gerstell

    Gerstell has received a warm thanks from the Cold Weather Shelter in Carroll County after our Upper School Falcon Outreach members hosted a Thanksgiving food drive to benefit them. After Founder's Day and its accompanied Thanksgiving assembly on November 20, students and faculty participated in a race to "Stuff the Bus" with donated food from home.

    Mrs. Jo Anna Edwards joined Gerstell Academy in 2007 as a fifth-grade teacher yet found her true calling as a third-grade classroom leader. During her 11 years at Gerstell, she has enjoyed sharing her time and talents by serving as Lower School liaison for the Language Arts department and volunteering with during- and after-school groups.
