Middle and Upper School Students Attend Annual Chamber of Commerce Meeting

Gerstell Academy students recently gained a unique firsthand look at the intersection of economics, business, and community leadership while attending the annual Chamber of Commerce Membership Meeting at Piney Branch Golf Club in Upperco. 

A highlight of the event was the keynote presentation by renowned economist Anirban Basu, whose annual economic forecast is widely anticipated by business leaders throughout the region. During his remarks, Dr. Basu recognized the Gerstell students in attendance and applauded their participation in the event, noting the importance of engaging young people in conversations about economic trends and leadership. 

Dr. Basu is widely respected for his expertise in economics and public policy. He has twice been recognized as one of Maryland's most influential people and has also been named among the Baltimore region's most powerful business leaders. In addition to serving as Chief Economist for numerous organizations across the country, he teaches global strategy at Goucher College and is known for his ability to make complex economic topics both accessible and engaging. 

After a photo with Mr. Polasko, Mr. Abbott, Mr. Gardner and Dr. Basu, students left with a greater understanding of the current economic landscape and the factors shaping businesses and communities across Maryland and beyond. Equally valuable was the opportunity to connect with local professionals, business owners, and civic leaders, providing students with meaningful exposure to potential career paths and the importance of community involvement. 

Experiences such as these reflect Gerstell Academy's commitment to preparing students to become informed, engaged citizens who can confidently connect classroom learning with the world around them.
