Gerstell Academy’s 17th Annual Geography Bee!
On Friday, May 2nd, 2025, third and fourth grade students participated in the Geography Bee. Student participants were divided into three teams: the Red Team, the White Team, and the Blue Team. Each team was supported by a parent “coach” and was overseen by 4th grade teacher, Mrs. Patty Lutton, and the History Department Chairperson, Ms. Angela Sugg.

The Geography Bee, moderated by Mr. Thompson, Head of the Lower School, took place in the Carolyn B. Smith Library. The competition consisted of two rounds, with a tiebreaker round planned if necessary. The questions covered topics such as Maryland state facts, state capitals and abbreviations, key terms, continents and oceans, flags and capitals of countries around the world, and U.S. government buildings, statues, and memorials. The teams came well prepared, and the competition was intense! In the end, the Red Team triumphed, earning well deserved bragging rights.
Every student who participated in the Geo Bee showcased Principle #7, Work to reach your full potential, and should be incredibly proud of their achievements.
