The middle school girls soccer team opened their season with a hard-fought 6-4 loss to Annapolis Area Christian School (AACS). This year, the Falcons have once again partnered with Chapelgate School to form a combined team, and this was their first game competing together.
As expected with a newly formed team, there was a learning curve as players adjusted to one another on the field. However, the girls maintained a positive attitude throughout the game and worked hard from start to finish. Our veteran players were especially encouraging, helping to guide and support teammates who are newer to the sport.
The Falcons got off to a strong start offensively. In the first half, Hannah Ohio scored two goals, including one assisted by Elise Borcik. The team trailed by a close score of 3-2 at halftime.
The second half featured more impressive offensive play, with Elise Borcik scoring two goals, one of which was assisted by Hannah Ohio. The team's determination and teamwork were evident throughout the match.
Without a designated goalkeeper, several players stepped up to fill a crucial role. A Chapelgate player started the game in goal, and Emily Haga courageously took over during part of the first half and remained in goal for the entire second half. Her willingness to step into an unfamiliar position was a tremendous help to the team.
While the result was not what we had hoped for, the girls showed great effort, sportsmanship, and teamwork. As they continue to build chemistry and gain experience playing together, we look forward to seeing their growth throughout the season.
