Meet Mrs. Jana Hedrick, Upper School Spanish Instructor
Born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mrs. Hedrick graduated from Calvin College. During her junior year, she spent "an incredible semester abroad" in Denia, Spain; studying its language and culture. "Spain is where I gained my fluency in Spanish, fell in love with traveling, and was able to meet people from other cultures," she said.
After graduation, Mrs. Hedrick had accepted a Spanish teaching position at Delaware County Christian School in Newtown Square, PA. Six weeks after her relocation, she met her future husband Robert Hedrick Jr. Since he wished to move back to Maryland and pursue a career in law enforcement as a police officer, the couple moved after tying the knot in September 2014.
Mrs. Hedrick's next career move in teaching Spanish was to Howard High School where she taught four years before accepting a position with Gerstell Academy in 2018. She teaches Upper School Spanish 100 and 200 and serves as the Class of 2021 advisor.
The Hedricks live in Manchester, Maryland and have a large, playful German Shepherd named Ryker. They love to travel, read, volunteer at church, exercise, play volleyball, and run around with the dog.
"I am grateful for the opportunity to teach at Gerstell and be part of this wonderful community," said Mrs. Hedrick. "The students and faculty are truly one-of-a-kind and the best I have found in my seven years of teaching! Thank you for welcoming me into the Gerstell family."
