Lower School Celebrates First Friday with Bike Day!
First Friday is an annual Lower School tradition that marks the beginning of a new school year. This summer's reading selection, The Mouse and the Motorcycle, tells the story of a young mouse named Ralph who lives in a hotel. When a boy named Keith visits the hotel, Ralph becomes fascinated by Keith's toy motorcycle and discovers that he can ride it. Throughout the story, Ralph embarks on exciting adventures, learns responsibility, and helps Keith when he becomes sick.
The morning began with a Leadership Circle focused on bike safety. Students were joined by former Gerstell employee Mr. Dwight Jones, an avid motorcyclist, who shared the ABCs of bike safety and discussed the importance of making safe and responsible choices while riding.
After enjoying time riding their bikes and scooters, students gathered around the Seal as Ms. Zinzi read Duck on a Bike by David Shannon. The story provided a fun connection to the day's theme and inspired plenty of smiles and laughter. Students then enjoyed a picnic lunch on the Quad, followed by a visit from Kona Ice for a sweet treat on a warm and sunny afternoon.
First Friday was a wonderful way to begin the school year, bringing together reading, leadership, and community. We look forward to the many opportunities our students will have this year to learn, grow, and create lasting memories together.
