Alumnus Sees World Through a Different Lens
Evan Paterakis, Class of 2016, has taken a break from studying business at High Point University after teaching himself film-making.
A year ago, Evan began to accept jobs from various clients that allowed travel around the world, producing videos involving brands such as Under Armour, American Airlines, Vineyard Vines, Chubbies, and MVMT. Evan has worked with top models, social media stars, and music artists such as The Chainsmokers, Martin Garrix, and Tiesto. He uses Instagram as a platform to showcase his work.
Evan has jumped out of helicopters in Hawaii and petted cheetahs in South Africa. During his crazy adventures, Evan has found a love for helping the communities in which he visits ... from rebuilding and cleaning after a hurricane disaster in the Virgin Islands; to working with children in Dominican Republic. He has traveled to Vietnam, Bali, Mexico, and other countries, accumulating hundreds of thousands of views on his videos.
"Making a switch from Gilman to Gerstell Academy in the tenth grade was the most life changing event," said Evan. Because of learning leadership skills at Gerstell, Evan was able to build confidence in himself and start taking risks while maintaining a moral code. The social skills learned at Gerstell has allowed him to network with incredible people around the world and helped him to become the success he is today.
"There is really no community like Gerstell," said Evan, "and I would not be the person I am today without everything Gerstell taught me."
