Gerstell Academy Celebrates Dual Soccer Championships

On Saturday, November 5th, the Gerstell Academy Falcons girls’ varsity team clinched the Interscholastic Association of Maryland (IAAM) Soccer Championship - C Conference in the final game against The Catholic High School Cubs in a 7-1 victory. Falcon pride was on full display at the game which was held on the campus of Calvert Hall. The win is special because it marks the first time the girls’ soccer team has won an IAAM soccer championship.

Freshman Reagan Ramsey scored first and ended with 2 goals and one assist. Junior Olivia Sprinkle continued the pressure with 2 goals. Sophomore Kirsten Clarius also scored 2 goals.  Sophomore Addison McIlvain contributed 1 goal and 1 assist. Freshman Cambrie Franks and Junior Marisa Wargo each had 1 assist.

Senior goalie Sydnee Smith held off the Cubs attempts to score throughout the game. Freshman Cambrie Franks also made an appearance in the goal towards the end of the game.

Also, on the defensive side, Senior Jamison Gochnauer, Sophomores Kiara Hardy, and Kylie Haislip held the Cubs to one goal.

The Lady Falcons finished conference play with an unblemished record of 15-0

On Sunday, November 6th, the Gerstell Academy Falcons boys’ varsity soccer team (not to be outdone) won the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) Soccer Championship- C Conference in the game against St. Vincent Pallotti. The Falcon community turned out once again to cheer on the boys as they clung to victory in a 1-0 finish. The game was held on the UMBC campus.

Senior Defender Braedan Dillon scored the only goal in the first few minutes of the game.

Goalkeeper Andrew Sindicic (Junior) made some impressive saves to maintain the Gerstell advantage.

The winning season marks the 4th time the Falcons have won a soccer championship (the last being a “B” Conference win in 2013). The team managed a 15-0-1 season.

The victory was especially rewarding given the fact that the Falcons lost in last year’s MIAA “C” Conference championship to St. Vincent Pallotti after an undefeated season.

This marks the final season for long standing Coach Ashley Murphy who is thrilled to be leaving a winning legacy.

Four Gerstell Falcons led the county in goals during the regular season:
  • Reagan Ramsey
  • Olivia Sprinkle
  • Riley Kilroy
  • Travis Smith
Gerstell Academy athletics is pleased with the season, and Athletic Director Phil Gilotte commented “What a perfect weekend.  It really means a lot for our soccer program and our school community.  It's great to see our athletes reach their full potential after all the hard work and dedication they put into the season."
