Students Improve Math Skills while Helping Others

In keeping with Gerstell Academy’s Leadership Attributes, Middle School students took Action with the goal of providing Hope to the children at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

During a two-week Math-A-Thon, students solved math problems online and collected donations for St. Jude’s. The contest helped them to sharpen their math skills while raising money to benefit critically ill children and pediatric research. They raised over $12,000, exceeding their $8,000 goal.

The seventh-grade class collected the highest amount of donations and will receive a free Math period as a bonus. Blake M., Kendra B., and Becca S. were the top fundraisers and Natalie D., Olivia L., and Alexis G. solved the most math problems. Each student received a gift card for approaching this endeavor with passion, conviction, and persistence. As an extra bonus and as part of the grand prize for raising the most money, first place winner Blake cracked eggs on Mrs. Proescher and Ms. Grandy’s heads, and second place winner Kendra pied Ms. Newman!
