Middle School Student Wins Third Place in "Champions of Courage" Essay Competition

Catherine Sager, a Gerstell Academy sixth grader, is one of fifteen winners in the 34th Annual "Champions of Courage" Black History Month Essay Competition. The competition challenged students, grades 6 through 12, to write a brief essay saluting their personal “Champion of Courage”.... a positive role model who has touched their lives by sharing the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Catherine’s Champion of Courage is the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Catherine and Gerstell Academy each received a $100 award.
 
Gerstell Academy would also like to recognize and congratulate two additional students who advanced to the finals: Matthew Glaser’26, and Avery Zeisler’23.
 
The top finalists were announced during the broadcast special “Saluting Maryland’s Champions of Courage,” which aired on FOX 45, CW Baltimore, and myTV Baltimore on February 21.
