Falcon Outreach Serves Community Shelter and Local Families in Need

Students of Falcon Outreach took action and persevered to continue their November 2020 canned food drive even after the Upper School switched to remote learning after Thanksgiving. Once fully virtual, Falcon Outreach established drop-off times and placed bins outside of the Paterakis Athletic Center where a large quantity of nonperishable items accumulated, along with monetary donations.

The food drive assisted adults and children in a local overnight family shelter by providing cereal, granola bars, socks, and shampoo, and nonperishable and fresh food. Using the generous cash donations, Falcon Outreach students purchased dairy products, meats, salads, vegetables, fruits, bakery goods, and desserts for each family.

As well, a sign-up genius was generated to organize a collection of holiday gifts and clothing for several needy Hispanic families at St. John’s Church. Gifts were sorted and wrapped, such as coats, shoes, infant supplies, basic necessities, board games, footballs, dolls, and books. Certainly this grand gesture helped to make their holiday brighter!

For those same families, Spanish Honor Society students wrote over 40 letters in Spanish to include with the gifts and made deliveries of gifts and letters to three locations in December.

The Gerstell community extends thanks to the Falcon Outreach students and school families who donated for your generosity of time, talents, and treasures!
