Gerstell Honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

On Thursday, January 16, student volunteers from Rho Kappa, the Social Studies Honor Society, led a Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Assembly for the Middle and Upper School. Students presented on the significance of Dr. King with a focus on the later campaigns Dr. King supported - including a garbage worker strike in Memphis. The students also discussed the assassination of Dr. King. Participants in the assembly explained that the campaigns Dr. King supported shifted, but that he maintained his passion for social justice. Students who participated held student-made signs that resembled those used during the garbage worker strike, and the ones that were used immediately after the assassination.
