On Saturday, February 2nd, the Gerstell Academy’s Speech and Debate Club Navy Team won the Regional High School Ethics Bowl which took place at the University of Baltimore’s Hoffberger Center for Professional Ethics. After months of case review and intense preparation, the two upper school teams, including the Red Team led by Senior McKenzie Funk and the Navy Team led by Junior Jana Dubinovsky, demonstrated their leadership and knowledge of ethics as they faced six teams from five other schools. This is the third Regional victory in a row for Gerstell Academy. The Navy Team will proceed to a virtual ethics bowl elimination round to qualify for Nationals in April.

 

Gerstell Academy has a long history of excellence in academics and Mr. Dane Menges, Leadership Instructor and Moderator of the Speech and Debate Team, commented that; “Our students demonstrated all of the attributes that we continually seek to instill in our young leaders. It was fun to watch the depth of consideration, thought and effort that our students put in to reviewing the cases.”

 

Gerstell Academy has competed in the Ethics Bowl for 6 years, and Mr. Menges has served as Faculty Moderator for the past 4 years.
