Freshman Kate Maerten wins local Poetry Competition

Ninth Grade student Kate Maerten will represent Gerstell Academy on Saturday, March 10th at the Baltimore Museum of Art for the Maryland State Poetry Outloud competition. Kate won the local competition against 16 area schools, both public and private. She recited two poems; "Silence" by Thomas Hood, and "Domestic Situation" by Ernest Hilbert. For the competition on Saturday she will also recite "Snowflake" by William Baer. Kate will be competing against nine schools for a monetary award, and the chance to advance to the national competition.
