First Ever Winter Greek Olympics Occurs at Gerstell Academy

Terri Rinehart
Students currently enrolled in World History 100 with Dr. Greenspoon, Mr. Salt, and Mrs. Rinehart took part in the first annual Gerstell Greek Olympics on Tuesday November 27, 2018. The activity served as an extension of our in-class study of Ancient Greece. Students competed in six events --the 100 meter sprint, the 400 meter relay, the long jump, the javelin throw, the chariot race, and the discus throw. Students were excited to compete and many wore togas over their PE uniforms despite the cold and wind. The gym was filled with enthusiasm from all participants and our stadium was rocking with motivational music throughout the  various races. Winners in each event were presented with gold, silver, and bronze medals as they stood on podiums.
Our medal breakdown by class:
Dr. Greenspoon’s Team—1 Gold, 5 Silver, 0 Bronze
Mr. Saltaformaggio’s Team—1 Gold, 0 Silver, 2 Bronze
Mrs. Rinehart’s Team—4 Gold, 1 Silver, 4 Bronze
We are thrilled to infuse our curriculum with meaningful and fun ways to bring history to life for our students.
