Gerstell Academy Wins IAAM Girls’ Cross -Country “C” Conference Championship!
On Tuesday, October 24th the Gerstell Academy Girls’ Cross- Country Team won the IAAM (Independent Athletic Association of Maryland) “C” Conference Championship. Held at 4 p.m. in Hunt Valley, MD at Shawan Downs, the weather was beautiful, and the temperature hovered in the upper 60’s. The girls competed against 9 teams from AIMS (Association Of Independent Maryland and D.C. Schools.)
Coached by parent Mr. Chris Miller and Gerstell faculty member, Mr. Luke Donato, the team’s winning spirit was on full display as parents, students, faculty and staff cheered from the sidelines. Coach Donato shared the following:
“It was a sincere pleasure helping to coach the girls this season. They’re a very positive, hard-working group that consistently dominated the conference this year. It was awesome to see them finish the season strong with a well-deserved championship.”
The Gerstell Boys’ Cross -Country Team also attended to support the girls.
Gerstell sophomore, Maggie Kennedy qualified for the All-Conference Team with a time of 23:35 for the race. Gerstell senior, Morgan Burns was acknowledged as a top ten runner and invited to the winner’s podium to be recognized.
The girls won every meet/race this year and it was a true “wire to wire” season as the top team in the conference. Although the team never had a running finish first in any of the races this year, our girls all consistently finished within the top 15 finishers in each race they entered this season.
Charm City Run hosted the event in conjunction with the IAAM. The race has been in existence since 1989 and began as a collaboration within the Catholic school system.
