Gerstell Academy hosted the Countywide Elementary Private and Home School Battle of the Books competition under the leadership of Mrs. Diana Ricker, English Department Chair and Gerstell coordinator for the county Battle of the Books on April 1st. This exciting book-based competition grew out of the Learning Advantage Partnership between the Carroll County Public Library and Carroll County Public Schools. The mission of the Battle of the Books is to encourage reading while highlighting the Maryland Black Eyed Susan Book Award. During the recent competition, Middle and Upper School students shared their time and talents by performing roles throughout the evening such as ushering, running answers from the team to the score table, and handing out certificates and goody bags. Our 3rd grade team, The Rappin’ Readers, our 4th grade teams, The Leader Readers and A Sky-full of Books, and our 5th grade team, The Bookworms, did an excellent job answering questions relating to the content of a number of books. Congratulations to our Middle School team, The Bibliomaniacs, who competed in the Battle of the Books on April 7 at the Montessori School in Westminster. We thank these young leaders for proudly representing Gerstell Academy and demonstrating their passion, conviction, and persistence throughout the evening.
