Blake Bissen ’17 graduated Magna Cum Laude from University of Maryland with a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and minor concentrations in Real Estate Development, Construction Project Management, and Spanish Language and Cultures. While attending UMD, he lived in the Language House and played soccer(briefly against alum Braden Silcott '15 at UMBC). Blake served as class representative for the University of Maryland Architecture Student Assembly, received the Faculty Award for Academic Excellence and held academic honors all semesters. He was enrolled in the Arts Scholars program and taught a one credit workshop on 3D poetry. Blake's other accomplishments include studying in Ecuador, taking classes in French and American Sign Language, and co-hosting a WMUC 88.1 radio show with alum Joey Tabak '17 entitled “Emotional Waves.”
Blake has spent the last three summers exploring his professional interests. He has worked in construction management for WBCM in Towson, in architectural design for JN & A in Rockville, and for Real Projectives®; a real estate development firm in Laurel. His hobbies include beach volleyball, visiting national parks, hiking, backcountry camping, and mountain biking. His favorite adventures include visiting Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, and Acadia National Park. His goal is to hike the Appalachian Trail in the near future.
Blake is pursuing a graduate certificate in Real Estate Design & Development and is a graduate student at the University of Virginia in the Master of Architecture program with plans to graduate in 2023. He currently lives on The Range; a community at UVA for graduate students. The Range was built in the 1800’s as part of the Thomas Jefferson-designed Academical Village. Blake is looking forward to exploring Charlottesville, Monticello, the Shenandoah National Park, and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
