Gerstell Students Compete in Virtual “Battle of the Books”
The Battle of the Books is an annual competition hosted by the Carroll County Public Library in which students compete in teams to answer questions related to the content of ten books. Practices for Gerstell Academy Lower School students began in the autumn of 2019 and each participant worked to reach their full potential by reading, writing questions related to the books' content, and participating in weekly practices to prepare for the spring competition. Due to the current circumstances relating to COVID-19, this countywide event was cancelled. This obstacle did not stop our Gerstell Falcons from persevering and using their critical thinking skills to successfully launch a virtual in-house competition. Thanks to the leadership of Mrs. Katie Menges, Mrs. Rhonda Martinez, and Ms. Kathy Krcma, the two Lower School teams - the Literary Leaders and the Fierce Falcons - were able to successfully compete in the first-ever Virtual Battle of the Books via Zoom on April 23. The “Literary Leaders” won first place with the “Fierce Falcons” placing a close second. Your accomplishments are an inspiration to us all!
