Jennifer Sabad Influences Students though Leadership

Since graduating college, Jennifer Sabad knew that working with children would be central to her career. Mrs. Sabad taught seventh and eighth grade English in Baltimore County for four years after graduating from Providence College with a degree in Humanities, English and Secondary Education. First as a team leader and then as the dean for the seventh grade, she quickly learned that leadership matters and that positively influencing others to unite in a common direction can have a big impact on a school community. While teaching, she earned her Master’s Degree in Leadership in Education with a concentration in English from the College of Notre Dame of Maryland. When she left the Baltimore County Public School System in 1999 to raise her three sons, Mrs. Sabad continued to work part-time for her church. Over her seventeen year tenure, she designed and ran the pre-teen program, acted as the Assistant Children’s Director, directed the Middle School program, and was the Family Life Executive Assistant. Mrs. Sabad’s passion for working with and influencing students led her back into the teaching field two years ago when she became recertified in secondary English. She stepped back into teaching in Carroll County Public Schools, working at the alternative middle/high school, and is now excited to work with the sixth and eighth grade students at Gerstell.
Being around middle school students energizes Mrs. Sabad, and she loves the small size and personal connections that Gerstell offers students. She is looking forward to building relationships and teaching English this year, but she is most excited about the leadership examples that can be weaved into learning daily. As Mrs. Sabad shared with parents in September, “English affords us such a great platform on which to study and learn from, as texts give us the gamut of great leaders and not-so-great leaders to analyze.” She is enjoying bringing this different aspect into the English classroom.
Mrs. Sabad resides in Carroll County with her husband and three sons, two of whom are currently away at college. She and her husband spend their weekends traveling between schools to watch the boys play basketball and college lacrosse. She serves at her local church and is active in the Youth Ministry there. Mrs. Sabad is thrilled to be at Gerstell and is looking forward to an exciting year!
