Erika Tan, Class of 2016, was selected for membership into The Order of the Lighted Lamp at High Point University, one of its oldest honor societies, and was recognized for her achievements during the 2018-2019 academic year. The Order recognizes leadership abilities, excellent character, and academic achievement. She also was inducted into a co-fraternity (APO) this semester and received an award for good character and commitment to the organization. After completing the senior level course (Advanced Research Methods), Erika presented her research, as the author of two works, at High Point University's Research and Creativity Symposium. Being published as a researcher was her goal and she feels blessed to have had the opportunity.
Erika’s brother, Brandon Tan, Class of 2018, is a member of Rho Upsilon Chapter of the Tri-Beta National Biological Honor Society at Villanova University and has been selected Chair of Communications. He conducts research with a biology department professor on the effects of the aging process on the human immune system. Brandon was also elected Secretary for the Filipino-American Student Association, which works to spread awareness of the Filipino culture and promotion of unity and cooperation. This is particularly special for him since his parents emigrated to the United States from the Philippines. Through the organization, he is able to meet new people while exploring his family history. Brandon was also accepted to study abroad this summer in Cadiz, Spain where he will major in Spanish. He credits the emphasis on Spanish, Leadership, and the national awards he received while attending Gerstell for helping him earn this opportunity.
