Thirty-four members of the Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica (SHH/Spanish Honor Society) enjoyed a sponsored trip to the Embassy of Spain in Washington, D.C. on March 5. The Sociedad organized a January fundraiser, under the leadership, of SHH President Matthew Burdyck, to help pay for the trip, which allowed the Society to take their language skills "on the road."
The students enjoyed a private presentation by an embassy diplomat and political counselor, Gabriel Alou Forner, a native of Mallorca, Spain. During his 60-minute presentation spoken entirely in Spanish, students offered questions in Spanish on global awareness and international study. The students set a terrific example of the high caliber of leadership and Spanish language programs offered at our school.
The group then dined at Cuba Libre, an authentic Spanish restaurant in a beautiful setting. Inspired by the day's success, members and officers of the Spanish Honor Society anticipate organizing a similar trip next year.
