Sophomore Wins Regional Poetry Out Loud Competition

Gerstell Academy sophomore, Kate Maerten won first place in the Regional Poetry Out Loud competition. She earned 300 dollars by competing against twelve talented students from surrounding counties and will go on to compete at the State competition on March the 2nd at the Baltimore Museum of Art. Kate is pictured right with Mrs. Diana Ricker, Chair of the English Department.
We wish Kate the best as she recites three classic poems that she has memorized and rehearsed. If Kate wins at the Maryland competition, she will go to Nationals for the chance of winning 20,000 dollars. The 2019 National Finals will be held April 30th, 2019 at the Lisner Auditorium at The George Washington University.
