Upper School Physical Education
Health/Strength & Fitness (Required for 9th Graders)
Health/Strength & Fitness will give the students the knowledge and understanding of personal lifetime physical fitness. The class will teach and incorporate goal setting, flexibility, cardiovascular/endurance training, circuit training, plyometric training, speed and agility training and strength training program philosophies.
Team Sports I (Offered in the Fall)
In Team Sports I, students will participate in a variety of sports including: Flag Football, Soccer, Field Hockey, and Ultimate Frisbee. The students will develop and demonstrate gross motor coordination and the ability to cooperate and contribute to the success of the group while participating in team activities. They will also develop a level of fitness needed to participate in group activities, while learning the skills and rules that accompany the sports they are playing.
Team Sports II (Offered in the Winter)
In Team Sports II, students will participate in a variety of indoor sports including: Basketball, Volleyball, Floor Hockey, Indoor Soccer. The students will develop and demonstrate gross motor coordination and the ability to cooperate and contribute to the success of the group while participating in team activities. They will also develop a level of fitness needed to participate in group activities, while learning the skills and rules that accompany the sports they are playing.
Team Sports III (Offered in the Spring)
In Team Sports III, students will participate in a variety of sports including: Softball, Lacrosse, Team Handball, and Speedball. The students will develop and demonstrate gross motor coordination and the ability to cooperate and contribute to the success of the group while participating in team activities. They will also develop a level of fitness needed to participate in group activities, while learning the skills and rules that accompany the sports they are playing.
Individual Sports (Offered throughout the year)
In Individual Sports, students will participate in a variety of activities including: Archery, Badminton, Bowling, Golf, Rock Climbing, Table Tennis, Tennis, and Wrestling. The students will develop and demonstrate gross and fine motor coordination while participating in their individual activities. They will also develop a level of fitness needed to participate in these activities, while learning the skills and rules that accompany the sport and activity they are playing.
Dance (Offered throughout the year)
In Dance Class, students will participate in a variety of dancing activities including: Ball Room, Aerobic, Folk, Country Western, Social, and Square. The students will develop and demonstrate gross and fine motor coordination while participating in their dance activities. They will also develop a level of fitness needed to participate in these activities while learning the steps and rhythm that accompany the dance and activity they are doing.
Weight Training (Offered throughout the year)
Weight Training expands upon and broadens students understanding of those topics learned in Health/Strength & Fitness. The students will participate in a personalized fitness program designed by themselves to meet the goals that they set. They will incorporate many of the philosophies learned earlier, such as training variation, cardiovascular training, and strength training.
