Middle School Physical Education
Life-long fitness is a fundamental component of being a successful and effective leader. At Gerstell Academy, students are taught that physical fitness is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. Students at the Middle School level participate in either athletics or physical education five days per week. The culminating event is the Middle School Olympics, which allow students the opportunity to strive for excellence in various athletic challenges.
The sports curriculum emphasizes fundamental skills, tactical understanding, and game rules. Modified rules with smaller teams are utilized to encourage participation and to enhance skill building.
The fitness curriculum emphasizes the essential five components of physical fitness: muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, and agility. Students are assessed through The Presidential Physical Fitness Challenge.
Classes are held in Gerstell's state- of- the- art Paterakis Athletic Center.
