Middle School Art
Art in the Middle School encompasses both art history and studio art. Students have the opportunity to explore a variety of techniques, concepts, and topics.
In the Sixth Grade, art history includes the study of the following periods and schools: Classical, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassical, Romantic, and Realism.
Seventh Grade art history includes the study of impressionism, expressionism, and modern American painting.
Eighth Grade art history/topics include painting since WWII, photography, sculpture, and architecture.
Gerstell Academy Motto, Principles and Attributes are integrated throughout the course, as is a study of influential artists and leaders in the art world.
Topics and projects in art will parallel material being studied in U.S. History, Spanish, and music wherever possible. Field trips relating to art are integrated into curriculum throughout the year.
