Welcome to Gerstell's Lower School where we seek to cultivate a love of learning in an enriched environment by providing experiences that enhance genuine interest and curiosity. Gerstell’s program is cognitively, physically and creatively challenging.
An integrated approach to subject matter allows teachers to build on concepts, present new ideas, and offer vitality and depth to our children’s learning. We recognize that students thrive under the guidance of creative and caring teachers who educate their students in a setting of small classes filled with active learners. Opportunities are provided to allow each child to experience the satisfaction of achievement and to build on success.
Leadership Education is integrated into all levels of teaching, counseling and modeling. Students are introduced to the Gerstell Motto, Principles and Leadership Attributes as we provide the foundation for character building skills that will become integral to their lives. Children are challenged to lead, to make meaningful decisions, and to accept responsibility for their choices.
Fundamental knowledge in a traditional academic setting concentrates on the mastery of language arts and mathematical skills and encourages individual creative expression. Our classical curriculum explores religions and cultures in social studies, fosters inquiry and cooperation in science, stimulates creativity and expression in the arts, and promotes health, motivation, and feelings of self-confidence through play and fitness education. The study of Spanish begins in Pre-K and technology is used to enhance teaching in all subject areas. A supportive environment captures students’ energy and imagination and encourages respect for self and others. Our young students become independent thinkers as well as active seekers of knowledge.
