Gerstell Academy is a private, co-educational, non-sectarian, college preparatory leadership school based on the value system defined the Gerstell Academy Motto, Principles and Attributes.

Gerstell Academy currently has over 275 students enrolled in Pre-K through 10th grade and is adding one grade each year, graduating the first Upper School class in 2012.

Middle and Upper School Opportunities

Middle/Upper School English Teacher

Gerstell Academy seeks a Middle/ Upper School English Teacher with leadership experience for the 2010-2011 academic year.

This full-time position includes teaching students in grades six through eleven the first year, with opportunities through grade twelve. Duties will include teaching the Gerstell Mission, Motto, Principles and Attributes, teaching English courses, committee work, curriculum mapping, serving as student advisor, and other duties as assigned or needed to develop the Middle School and Upper School programs.

The ideal candidate will have prior leadership and teaching experience in the middle and upper school with the ability to teach literature based English courses with an emphasis on grammar and writing.  The candidate must be able to teach English as an academic course and as a vehicle to teach leadership education and character development.

Middle/Upper School History Teacher

Gerstell Academy seeks a Middle/ Upper School History Teacher with leadership experience for the 2010-2011 academic year.

Middle/Upper School Leadership Instructor

Gerstell Academy a private non-sectarian coeducational day school focused on leadership education and development is seeking a highly motivated leadership instructor for grades 6-12, with opportunities to teach a unique leadership curriculum.

Duties will include teaching and developing the leadership curriculum in accordance with the Gerstell Academy Leadership Model. The ideal candidate will have previous middle and/or upper school teaching experience and life experience in leadership positions in business, non profits, health care, education, public service, or the military.  A teaching background in psychology is highly desired. Course requirements include teaching leadership theory, leadership application, adolescent psychology, ethics, substance abuse prevention, public speaking, manners and social skills, community service, as well as goal setting and organizational skills. This position also offers opportunities to coach and/or lead extracurricular activities.

Middle School Science Teacher

Gerstell Academy is seeking an experienced middle school science teacher with proven leadership capabilities for the 2010-2011 academic year.

The candidate must be capable of teaching Human sexuality, Anatomy and Physiology, and middle school courses in Life, Physical, and Earth science. This full-time position includes teaching students in grades six through eight. Duties will include teaching Science courses, teaching the Mission, Motto, Principles, and Attributes, committee work, curriculum mapping, serving as a student advisor, and other duties as assigned or needed to develop the middle school and upper school programs.

The ideal candidate will have experience as a middle school science teacher and be able to use science as a vehicle to teach leadership and character development. Each Middle School course has an environmental leadership component making students aware of their responsibilities to the environment.

Athletic Coaching Opportunities

Head Girls Lacrosse Coach

Gerstell Academy seeks a qualified JV/Varsity Head Girls Lacrosse Coach for the 2010 lacrosse season. High School and/or college coaching experience required. Position is part time and will require coach to be present from 3:30-6:00 Monday-Friday. Season runs from late February through early May.

All teams will play on Gerstell's state-of-the-art synthetic turf stadium complex and train in the brand new Paterakis Athletic Center. All teams will compete against other local independent schools and travel teams.
