Gary Slyman
Gary Slyman serves Gerstell Academy as Assistant to the President and Head of the Middle and Upper Schools. He teaches Leadership classes to the middle school students.
Mr. Slyman was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps upon graduation from the Naval Academy in May of 1981. Designated a Naval Flight Officer in the EA-6B
Prowler, he has made numerous deployments supporting the training, contingency, and real world operations. He completed his operational career as the Commanding Officer of Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron 4 (VMAQ-4) at Cherry Point, North Carolina.
During his non-operational tours, he earned a Master’s Degree in Systems Engineering from the Naval Post-Graduate School, managed several Marine Corps acquisition projects, attended Marine Corps Command and Staff College, and was a Resident Ethics Fellow at the United States Naval Academy. He concluded his 23 year career at the United States Naval Academy as the Associate Director of the Center for the Study of Professional Military Ethics as an instructor of ethics and character development. He was also involved in executing a number of ethics and outreach programs for the Center.
He and his wife Michele have two college-aged children and they reside in Carroll County.
