Stephen Olszewski
Stephen Olszewski serves as the Chair of the History Department for all of Gerstell Academy. He teaches history in the Middle and Upper Schools and oversees the history curriculum for the Lower School as well. Mr. Olszewski coordinates the Geography Bee in the Lower School, and the Children’s History Challenge in the Middle School.
He comes to Gerstell Academy with 34 years of experience serving children and young adults in
clinical social work, law enforcement, and education. He worked as a clinical social worker and unit director at Villa Maria, a nationally recognized residential treatment center for abused and emotionally disturbed children.
In law enforcement, he served as a Patrol Officer in Baltimore City and Detective in the Child Abuse Unit where he conducted over 400 investigations and presented lectures nationally in several states.
Academically, Mr. Olszewski has earned a Master of Art degree in History from Boise State University, a Master of Science in Clinical Social Work from University Of Maryland School of Social Work and Community Planning, a Masters equivalency degree in Human Development from University of Maryland College Park ~ College of Education, Institute for Child Study, Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work from University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
Mr. Olszewski has lectured or taught courses in US History, Western Civilization, World History, Marriage and the Family, Human Development, Motivation, Social Psychology, and Law Enforcement. He has taught at the national, university, community college, high school, and middle school levels.
At the community recreation league level, he has coached elementary and middle school children in baseball, soccer, and softball. He is the father of two college-age children; both are student-athletes. Mr. Olszewski and his family reside in Carroll County.
